Ms. Wolski's Class

Welcome!

Wow!! March sure has flown by! It seems our school year is moving right along. It's hard to believe that we only have 30 days left of school! Time really does fly when you're having fun!

Important dates:

March 31- Report cards go home

April 1- April Fool's Day! (Don't forget to wear your silly socks!)

April 5- PTA meeting

April 21- Family Fun Night

April 25- Field trip to the Waste Management Facility

We just finished our unit from Chapter 8, Length in Customary Units. The students really enjoyed this unit and the many hands-on activities that were conducted in class to strengthen the concepts. Our next focus will be on Chapter 9, Length in Metric Units. Now that the students have a firm understanding of feet, inches and the tools used to make measurements, they will be introduced to centimeters and meters, how to make estimates using those units of measure and work through problem associated with length. Your child will also use their knowledge to determine the appropriate unit, tool and technique when measuring.

In Science, we have completed our unit on soil. We enjoyed learning all about the different types of soil and the different characteristics of each. Your child loved the "worm viewer," which allowed them to see the worms in action. Thank you again for all of the coffee grounds. The worms LOVED them!

Now that we have finished our Famous African American projects, we are going to be starting on a new project that is all about Earth conservation. Your child will be learning all about recycling and the different types of renewable energy we have. At the end of the month on APRIL 25 we will be taking a field trip to the local waste management facility to see recycling at work. More information will be provided in the coming week.

It's a little hard to believe but we are in the final reading module for the year. For this unit, students will be drawing on previously learned strategies related to characters, story structure and point of view. They will also develop new strategies in order to read and analyze books across a series.

Just a friendly reminder that STMath.com and Istation.com are both amazing resources that can be accessed at home for additional practice with concepts that are being taught in the classroom. At this point in the year, your child should have 80% of their syllabus completed. You are able to check your child's progress online under the "Accomplishments" page. If you have lost your log-on information and need assistance, please let me know.

Thank you to all of the families that continue to donate classroom supplies, books and their time. The students and I are extremely grateful of you and your support.  You are incredible!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school, by email cwolski@mail.usf.edu or write me a note in your child's agenda.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wolski
